June 14 thru June 16, trip to San Antonio

June 16, 2007.
Just completed a good trip to San Antonio for a School Board training. We drove down on Wednesday morning and arrived just before 2pm. The trip was pleasant and uneventful, which we were glad of. Each day was a day in training sessions for me and a day of R&R for my wife.

We walked along the Riverwalk several times and by it and above it many more times. We happened to be on Commerce street at The Marriott on the Riverfront when the Spurs were playing the fourth game in the Championship series against the Cavaliers. We were standing in the hotel bar watching the game along with many Spurs faithful. There was much cheering and noise making each time a Spurs player would make a big play. At the conclusion of the game it had begun to rain. When the Spurs won everyone went out of the hotel and into the street. By then there were many, many fans and observers and police and vehicles full of fans celebrating and having a good time. We joined in the merriment and high fived various people in the street and hollered and hooped and enjoyed the revelry. The rain was pouring down on us as we made our way through the crowed streets and went toward our hotel. Police were out in force and were trying to control the congested streets and sidewalks, but to no avail. I saw one policeman throw up his hands in resignation and disgust at his failed efforts to get compliance from the unruly celebrators. The people were not breaking or fighting, but celebrating by walking into the streets among the vehicles which were slowly proceeding down the street honking horns and people yelling out of the windows and some in the back of trucks yelling and holding up signs and having a good time. We finally made it back to our hotel and turned on the tv and checked out the news on the celebration going on in the streets. Pictures were flashed on the screen showing the crowded streets, which we were not able to really appreciate being in the midst of the crowd. Let me say that there were many, many, many people in the streets.

We are now starting on another day of training and R&R. Today we ate at some good restaurants and had another good day. We walked the mall and rode in a ride that simulated being in a mine car in a mine shaft that dipped and twisted and dropped and was a lot of fun.

Finally our time in San Antonio came to an end and we checked out and set the Garmin Gps and rolled back to Grapeland. First we set the Gps to stop us at a Red Lobster along the route and so we stopped and had a good lunch.
We made it home Saturday evening before dark. I called in to work to find out what time I was to be to work. It showed 2am Sunday morning. That meant that I had to go work in 4 or 5 hours. I went to be and got about 4 hours sleep and started on a 12 hour shift at 2am.
All in all, I am satisfied that the time was granted to me and my Wife to take our trip and that we made it back home safely. Thank you Heavenly Father.
That's all for now.
